James was hated by Martin Luther. Luther called James a "book of straw." Why? Answer: James calls for the works of a saint to match that saint's profession of faith in Jesus Christ. Luther could not get victory over beer, and he hated blips. James is TO blipish saints in the early Church age. This is one reason I have NO confidence in Martin Luther. If Luther had lived in the 1930s, he would very likely have followed Adolph Hitler with joy.
James was a man of authority, and he could have demanded the readers of this epistle to obey him outright. It is interesting to see how James often talks of "we" when speaking of faults in the saints. Let us consider this book a loving rebuke, "for in many things we offend all."
