PAYNE DAMANZO STOPPED THE TRUCK

March 12, 1997

At Safeway Food Store in Sierra Vista, Arizona.

Payne Damanzo is known for his easy going, courteous, and hard working style.  He is a Black American, and he is a pretty big fellow.  Well that came in handy last Wednesday.  Payne was out in the parking lot making order when he noticed a pickup truck in the handicapped parking area slowly pulling out of a parking spot.  Payne glanced at the driver, and suddenly noticed--

THERE WAS NO DRIVER!

Payne jumped in front of the truck and heaved hard.  The Safeway parking lot has a pretty good slope for a parking lot.  Payne had all he could do to stop the pickup truck, but he managed.  Well, the folks standing around were so amazed by all of this that no one stepped up to help him hold it.  Some yelling and bellowing produced the store manager, and they blocked the front tires with bags of fire wood.  The owners soon came out of the store to find their truck had changed parking places while they were shopping.

Balaam's Ass Speaks salutes Payne Damanzo for his quick and dangerous move.  Safeway knows how to hire the right kind of folks.
