In the Womb There Is Love

Psalm 139:13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.

Our world today is full of people that do not believe that a baby is a living human soul before birth.  The word of God tells us otherwise.  In Luke the Bible tells us plainly that a babe in the womb can respond to outside stimulation.   Luke 1:41 And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: ...44 For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.

Here is a story that shows the power of the bonds that can be formed even before birth.  Although these people may not actually be born again, they are God fearing, and this story should encourage mothers to find ways for their husbands and kids to form these bonds before their babies are born.

Keep on Singing

Like any good mother, when Karen found out that another baby was on the way, she did what she could to help her 3-year-old son, Michael, prepare for a new sibling. They found out that the new baby was going to be a girl, and day after day, night after night, Michael sang to his sister in Mommy's tummy. He was building a bond of love with his little sister before he even met her.

The pregnancy progressed normally for Karen, an active member of the Panther Creek United Methodist Church in Morristown, Tennessee. In time, the labor pains came. Soon it was every five minutes ...every three.... every minute. But serious complications arose during delivery and Karen found herself in hours of labor. Would a C-section be required?

Finally, after a long struggle, Michael's little sister was born. But she was in very serious condition. With a siren howling in the night, the ambulance rushed the infant to the neonatal intensive care unit at St. Mary's Hospital, Knoxville, Tennessee.

The days inched by. The little girl got worse. The pediatric spebliplist regretfully had to tell the parents, "There is very little hope. Be prepared for the worst." Karen and her husband contacted a local cemetery about a burial plot. They had fixed up a speblipl room in their home for the new baby - but now they found themselves having to plan for a funeral.

Michael, however, kept begging his parents to let him see his sister. "I want to sing to her," he kept saying. Week two in intensive care looked as if a funeral would come before the week was over. Michael kept nagging about singing to his sister, but kids are never allowed in Intensive Care. Karen made up her mind, though. She would take Michael whether they liked it or not! If he didn't see his sister right hen, he may never see her alive. She dressed him in an oversized scrub suit and marched him into ICU. He looked like a walking laundry basket. But the head nurse recognized him as a child and bellowed, "Get that kid out of here now! No children are allowed."

The mother rose up strong in Karen, and the usually mild-mannered lady glared steel-eyed right into the head nurse's face, her lips a firm line. "He is not leaving until he sings to his sister!"

Karen towed Michael to his sister's bedside. He gazed at the tiny infant losing the battle to live. After a moment, he began to sing. In the purehearted voice of a 3-year-old, Michael sang: "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy when skies are grey --- " Instantly the baby girl seemed to respond. The pulse rate began to calm down and become steady. "Keep on singing, Michael," encouraged Karen with tears in her eyes. "You never know, dear, how much I love you, Please don't take my sunshine away-" As Michael sang to his sister, the baby's ragged, strained breathing became as smooth as a kitten's purr. "Keep on singing, sweetheart!!!" "The other night, dear, as I lay sleeping, I dreamed I held you in my arms..." Michael's little sister began to relax as rest, healing rest, seemed to sweep over her. "Keep on singing, Michael." Tears had now conquered the face of the bossy head nurse. Karen glowed. "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. Please don't, take my sunshine away..."

The next, day...the very next day...the little girl was well enough to go home! Woman's Day Magazine called it "The Miracle of a Brother's Song." The medical staff just called it a miracle. Karen called it a miracle of God's love!

NEVER GIVE UP ON THE PEOPLE YOU LOVE. LOVE IS SO INCREDIBLY POWERFUL.

Song of Solomon 8:7 Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.

This story is sweet, but how much sweeter and more precious it would have been if the boy had sung "Jesus Loves Me" to his little sister as she was growing in the womb!  What are you teaching your children while they are in the womb?  To complain?  To get mad over every little thing?  How about reading scripture to your unborn baby?

My dad tuned a piano for a lady that had spent time playing the piano while expecting her son.  She played a soft kind of spacy music and when her son was born she was able to calm him right down by playing the piano for him when he was in a rotten mood.  What's more, when he got big enough to start plunking on the piano, rather than pounding like most kids would, he played soft little things like his mother had played for him both before and after his birth.

Now imagine the effect if she had played or sang hymns and good gospel music for him.  Imagine the difference between a child that is given "pre-natal care" of hearing God's word (KJV), good Christian music, and love and joy from family members compared to the babies that have to hear soap-operas, rock or country music, swearing and screaming, the racket and frustration of the work place, and a myriad of other ungodly things.  (You woman that think you just have to work and do so even while you are expecting a baby, have you ever stopped to wonder if your baby is hearing your husband's voice more than a male-coworkers?  Why your baby might actually bond more to your boss or some co-worker than he or she does to their own father!  How utterly horrible this seems when viewed in such a light!)

Hopefully this will encourage you to start including your unborn babies in "family life" while they are in the womb.  I did not look up when the ears are formed, but it is well before the actual birth.  You can start feeding that little mind with good things from God long before your baby is even born.  Deuteronomy 6:5 -7 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.       Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
